Jim Morel | Professor, Department of Nuclear Engineering,

Edward W. Larsen, Professor of Nuclear Engineering & Radiological Sciences, University of Michigan  
Dr. Morel received a B.S. in mathematics from Louisiana State University in 1972, an M.S. in Nuclear Engineering from Louisiana State University in 1974, and a Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering from the University of New Mexico in 1979. He began his career in 1974 as a Nuclear Research Officer at the Air Force Weapons Laboratory. In 1976 he became a Staff Scientist at Sandia National Laboratories. In 1984 he became a staff member at Los Alamos National Laboratory, eventually serving as a group leader and scientific advisor. In 2005 he accepted a professorship in the Department of Nuclear Engineering at Texas A&M University. He has published over 140 refereed articles in journals and conference proceedings in the areas of neutral particle transport, charged-particle transport, thermal radiation transport, and radiation-hydrodynamics. Dr. Morel’s work at Los Alamos contributed to the methods contained in Attila.

Edward W. Larsen, Professor of Nuclear Engineering & Radiological Sciences, University of Michigan  
Dr. Larsen received a Ph.D. in Mathematics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1971. After teaching in the Mathematics Departments at New York University and the University of Delaware, in 1977 he joined the technical staff of the Transport Methods Group at Los Alamos National Laboratory. In 1986 he entered his current position as professor in the Department of Nuclear Engineering and Radiological Sciences at the University of Michigan. Prof. Larsen's research has focused on mathematical and computational aspects of particle transport theory, and he is a recognized leader in both deterministic and Monte Carlo methods. He is an author on over 250 peer reviewed publications. In 1994 he was awarded the E.O. Lawrence award for his work, some of which has contributed to the advanced numerical methods now used in Attila.
